Short story long:
Just got back from a trip to CERN! That would be, of course, the place that houses the Large Hadron Collider amongst other things. I was essentially acting as cameraman/soundman/general dogsbody for a friend of mine who's making a short video for his 2nd year Science Communication project - somehow he managed to wrangle us invites to come and have a look round. I'd love to be able to say I saw the LHC, but unfortunately that's under tighter control. BUT I did get to see the AD, which is the antiproton decelerator and plenty of other funky science stuff - plenty of pics on flickr, some to go up here on dA soon.
Also, plush electron! Check it out! [link]
The only downside? Could NOT get a decent cup of tea anywhere.
Stereotypically British, but true
